Abstract

Isotropic pre-stack migration of the Foothills Synthetic Data Set results in erroneous positioning of reflections below the thrust sheet. Using CFP analysis, we invert imaging error as measured in the time/offset domain by least squares to deduce anisotropy parameters ε and δ under a number of assumptions: homogeneous, weak TI, known depth, known thickness, and known P-wave velocity (slow direction). We find for this model that ε and δ may be estimated to within ten percent of their true values. We speculate that the assumptions necessary for convergence may be relaxed when S-wave data is incorporated.
