Phase Velocity Approximation in a Finely Layered Medium

The effect of multiple scattering in finely layered sediments is of importance for stratigraphic interpretation, matching of well log-data with seismic data and seismic modelling. In our paper we derive a new approximation for the phase velocity in an effective medium show how it depends on the strength of the reflection coefficients. Approximation is tested on the real well log data example.
