Abstract

A model of regional facies distribution during the Mesozic, based on a simplified
paleogeographic-oriented approach to basin analysis, provides a quick method for describing
the geologic history and for evaluating the hydrocarbon prospectivity of large areas of the
Periadriatic region (northern Tunisia, Sicily, Malta, Italy, Yugoslavia, Albania, western
Greece). The model relies heavily on the overall vertical facies development and patterns of
carbonate sedimentation through time.
