Abstract

Reservoir management decisions are often based on performance predictions obtained from
numerical flow simulation. The reliability of such predictions depends on the quality and
quantity of available information, and then it depends on the ability to capture the physics of
flow processes accurately. Unfortunately, only limited information on reservoir properties of
varying quality and from different sources is usually available. Thus, a major element of risk
is due to incomplete knowledge of the reservoir description, which leads to uncertainty in the
obtained flow responses for the displacement processes under investigation.
