Abstract
The provision of geoscientific training within oil companies, so vital to the future financial
health of these companies, has been severely eroded in the last ten years.
Key factors causing this include budget cuts, lack of time to prepare internal, state of the art,
professional courses including the necessary reference quality manuals. Also internal
personnel with the required expertise are not available to prepare and provide training because
they are perceived to be of more valuable doing jobs that more directly impact the bottom
line.
