Comparison of polymer and waterflood residual oil saturations

Abstract
Polymer flooding can increase recovery in vissous oil fields compared to waterflooding, through a combination of improvements in microscopic sweep (lowering the effective residual oil saturation) and areal and vertical sweep (reducing the detrimental effect of heterogeneity and gravity slumping of injected water).
