Abstract

Time step selection in a reservoir simulator is a balance between minimizing work load and maximizing accuracy. The paper presents derivation of an estimate for the time truncation error for a discretized nonlinear system of differential equations and use of this estimate as basis for time step selection. The relationship between the truncation error and the solution error is discussed.
