ELF-electromagnetic exposure in urban areas: Preliminary results at two sites in Genova (Liguria, north western Italy)

In the last twenty years electrical energy consumption in Italy is almost doubled and it is growing at a higher rate than in the other European countries. Associated with the generation, transmission and use of electrical energy, usually delivered as 50 Hz alternating current, is the production of weak electromagnetic fields (EMF) in the extrernely low frequency range (ELF, from 3 to 3000 Hz).
