Abstract
In frame of the “Kosice-abiotic and biotic components of the environment” project, financed by Luxembourg and Slovak Ministries of the environment, the study of radioactive pollution and radon risk has been performed in the Kosice district region. The project area has an area! extent of about 310 km2. The potential sources of the natural radioactive pollution are represented by Paleozoic black shales and Permian volcanosediments of the Slovak Ore Mts., cropping out in nw. part of the area under study. They contain the uranium mineralization. The extensive tectonic predisposition increases the possibility of high radon risk, as an active neotectonics is ideal medium for the rising up radon emanations to the surface.
