Abstract

During the years, the pressure in the hydrocarbon reservoirs can decrease significantly due to the continuous production and depletion. As a result, reservoir compaction and subsidence of the surface can occur. These problems lead to several environmental problems (casing and cement damage, harmful gas and oil leakage, water contamination, and building and construction damage on the surface). These harmful processes should be detected in order to control hydrocarbon production, and to prepare environmental protection and remediation programs both under and on the surface. No complete measuring program was applied in Hungary before the suggested monitoring system.
