Abstract

Transmission effects in the overburden are important for amplitude-versus-offset studies and for tree-amplitude imaging of seismic data. Thin layers produce transmission effects which depend on frequency and slowness. O'Doherty and Anstey (1971) derived a remarkable formula for the transmission response for a plane wave at normal incidente in a stack of homogeneous layers taking into account the direct pulse and short-period multiples.
