Abstract
After reunification of Germany in 1989, the government decided that Berlin instead of Bonn will be the capital of Germany. Therefore new governmental buildings as well as underground road and railways shall be erected in the centre of Berlin until 1999. The specific area had to be surveyed with engineering geophysical and geotechnical methods. This was certainly the largest area for investigations with engineering geophysics in Germany, maybe in Europe (Fig 1 only shows half of the total surveyed area)
