Abstract

A geophysical survey has been carried out in the Neolithic site of Parco San Nicola near Bari, Southern Italy. Till now archaeological excavation have evidenced a little settlement constituded of a few hut with a sunken base embedded in clayey deposits covering karst limestones. The aim of this survey was the reconstruction of the ancient physical environment by delineation of the calcareous bedrock morphology and the characterisation of covering deposits, and the searching of a possible continuation of the known archaeological remairs. Due to expectable lateral change in the underground physical characteristic, it has been necessary to adopt survey methods capable to detect complex bodies. For this reason electrical pole-dipole profiles and seismic refraction profiles with multiple covering have been carried out.
