Seismic Cross-Hole Tomography as an Aid to Characterize an Unstable Slope

The "Dipartimento di Ingegneria del Territorio", on commission of the City Council of Jerzu (Nu), has carried out a study to find out the causes of cracks on the main walls of some private buildings in the city. Two questions were raised: a) were the cracks due to structural failures of the buildings or to soil movements? b) in the second hypothesis, what physical features and what geometry these movements have? Jerzu lies on an area that is well known to be a zone of high density of landslides.
