Abstract
In this paper we compare the performances of global and local optimization techniques in electromagnetic inversion. Global optimization schemes, e.g., genetic algorithms, Nelder-Mead simplex method, simulated annealing, are becoming increasingly popular in geophysical applications, because they search the whole parameter space for the global extremum.
