Abstract
The Middle Pliocene deposits of the Neogene are widely developed covering all of the offshore South Caspian Basin, such adjacent onshore areas as Kura depression, Wester Turkmenistan, Apsheron and Cheleken peninsulas, and southern portion of the Tersk-Caspian trough. In each of these areas, the Middle Pliocene formation has different lithological structure and mineralogical composition, due to the difference in tectonic intensity and orientation, depositional environments and sources of clastic sediments.
