Abstract

Applied to marine reflection seismic data with multitrace and multishot recordmg, a quantitative migration algorithm aims at recovering both the location and the relative amplitudes of the reflectivity within the surveyed profile. The proposed algorithm is based upon a misfit function between the data and synthetic seismograms, which are simulated as a function of a reflectivity and which are parametrised by an assumed velocity model. The gradient of this function provides an approximation of the reflectivity up to a weighting matrix. In place of the pseudo-inverse of the hessian of this misfit function, which would lead to the optimal approximation, but whose numerical cost happens to be unrealistic, several weighting matrix are proposed and discussed.
