f Accuracy of Migration Velocity Analysis - Tricky Focusing

Focusing of waves is essential and common attribute of both conventional CMP stack velocity estimation technique and Migration Velocity Analysis. From this point of view in simplest case of homogeneous medium the patter has only one advantage: beeing better theoretically justified, it suggests better opportunity for analytical investigation of its accuracy. The reason why accuracy should be made an issue is explained by the fact that geometrical optics' approximation, which prevail in seismic interpretation, is not valid near focusing zones.
