Abstract

Marine gravity acquisition and processing are presently claimed to achieve a typical accuracy of 1mGal. The increasing use of marine gravity data for 3D seismic and production surveys demands improved data accuracy and spatial resolution. For exploration requirements the marine gravity data from satellite attimetry are approaching marine gravity survey accuracies (eg. the ERS1 satellite data). For these reasons British Gas Exploration and Production (BGE&P) and British Gas Research and Technology (BG R&T) have undertaken an objective program to assess current marine gravity acquisition and processing and investigate how these might be improved.
