Abstract
Since its creation thirty years ago, Sonatrach, the National Oil Company of Algeria, has been conducting major exploration programs covering the entire Algerian territory, to preserve Algeria's hydrocarbon resources, beyond the supergiant fields such as Hassi Messaoud and Hassi R'mel, which are currently the country's major producing units. Algeria's sedimentary structures cover a surface area of 1.5 million Km2, of which approximately 200,000 km2 have been explored in association with around 20 international oil companies.
