Abstract
Applying computer tools to Exploration and Production problems is standard procedure in most companies. In the constant search to get the most effective computer systems for the least cost, companies have tried building computer groups in Exploration and moving all computing info an Information Technology group. Neither effort has been particularly successful: The people who know the problems - the Explorationists - generally have only a passing knowledge of computer science. The people who know the tools - the IT professionals - too often have only a partial view of the Exploration and Production process.
