Abstract
For the first time as the result of geophysical survey analysis, a quite new and unexpected idea of salt-dome tectonics of the Arys depression in South Kazakhstan was put forward (N.G. Davydov, 1960-62). Seismic survey identified considerable 800-100m amplitude uplifts which correspond to minimums of gravity field. This is a new factor in the morphology of the region under study. Basing on the results of gravity prospecting in the Arys depression, a spacious 20x60 km gravity minimum zone in the form of stretched negative local anomalies was identified.
