Abstract

Libya is situated on the Mediterranean foreland of the African Shield. Sirte Basin of Libya, oriented in NW-SE direction, is the result of a cratonic rifting related with the openning of Tethys. Extentional tectonism produced characteristic half-graben/tilt block systems whose facies are influenced by the slopes of hanging walls and foot walls.
