f Seismic Data Compression with CD-ROM Archiving

In this paper, we examine the economic and technical considerations for using data compression as an adjunct to seismic data storage on CD-ROM. Some of the possible data compression techniques are reviewed, together with a pragmatic assessment of the relative effect of errors due to the use of lossy compression and those arising from variations in seismic processing and display.
