Abstract

Monitoring underground gas storages is betoming an increasingly important problem, because natural gas is a dominant energy resource of the next decade, and storage capacities must be significantly increased in western Europe. In order to avoid tosses and to use a storage at its optimum capacity, tens of millions of dollars are spent to drill monitorwells, to see where the gas goes and plan accordingly. Support from surface measurements could save the cost of many wells.
