Abstract

Summary

Firstly, we present a modified particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm called “group-PSO” (G-PSO) by introduce a new kind of particles called “group particles”. Experimental result shows that G-PSO is superior to standard PSO. Secondly, we use G-PSO to inverse fundamental mode of Rayleigh wave. The strategy works well with the 3-layer model but fail to get acceptable results with the 4-layer model. At last, we introduce higher modes to the inversion. Results show that considering higher modes in the inversion process is an alternative way to get better results.
