Abstract

Exploration for hydrocarbons in Northern Germany is often directed towards the recognition of favourable structures on the margins and flanks of salt dome features. The near vertical boundaries of these salt structures, lack of intemal reflectors and high seismic velocities make accurate resolution of the boundaries difficult with seismic reflection methods typically employed in exploration. However, theoretically there should be a good contrast between the resistivities of the salt and surrounding sediments, permitting electromagnetic resolution of the salt-sediment boundary.
