Abstract

Mafic dykes in eastern and southern Africa are delineated from the magnetic expression in a transnational magnetic data set coinciding with an area of almost continuous aeromagnetic coverAGE east of Zaire and east and south of Angola. A GIS database of dykes has been built up from the combination of aeromagnetic interpretation, published outcrop evidence and previous geophysical interpretation from some parts of the study area. An inter-relational analysis of the data with the Gondwana geological database enables regional structural interpretation and tectonic implications for the disruption of Gondwanaland to be derived.
