Abstract

Although little exploration success has been achieved on the East Shetland Platform to date, integration of well results from UKCS Quadrants 3, 8 and 9 with a new seismic interpretation suggests that considerable subtle stratigraphic trapping potential exists in its Palaeocene section. The results of this study suggest that exploitation will depend upon a full understanding of the regional controls on Palaeocene sediment dispersal, the distribution of incised valley drainage networks and the sedimentary composition of the valley fill.
