Abstract
The ethos of integrated reservoir description is founded upon the geologically-governed emplacement within. a seismic-defined framework of discrete building blocks of known physical proporties. The blocks are a product of the merging of petrophysical interpretation and facies description: hence the name petrofacies. Because, by its very nature, each petrofacies has a distinct petrophysical signature, the reliability of the resulting reservoir model is dependent upon the accuracy and precision of the core-controlled interpretation of well logs. A key element of this dependance is the definition of the nature and form of the interpretative algorithms. This procedure is termed petrophysical characterisation.
