The rapid development in sequence stratigraphy duririg the last decade has contributed in an important way to hydrocarbon exploration, development and production. The main innovative aspect which has been introduced since the application of sequence stratigraphic concepts in petroleum geology, was the departure from a more lithostratigraphic approach to an onderstanding of geological relationships within a time-related stratigraphic framework.
