Abstract

The Kerch peninsula attracted attention many years ago because of the well-known oil seepage. The real search for oil fields began after the end of the "surface-soil" period of oil extraction. However, big succesces were not obtained. Some small fields of heavy oil were opened in the Neogen sediments and lesser fields were opened in the Maikop series. The attempts to discover oil deposits in deep-seated Cretaceous sediments also gave poor results. Finally, oil-prospectors lelt this evident oil-bearing region.
