Abstract
The identification and evaluation of fault seals in exploration prospects and producing fields are becoming increasingly important components of geotechnical evaluations, particularly in the northern North Sea. In an effort to better understand several recent, fault-dependent discoveries in Block 35/11 (Horda Platform, offshore Norway), Mobil Exploration Norway Inc. (Mobil) has completed a study of surrounding field data to document the influence faults exert on hydrocarbon migration and entrapment in the area. These data were also needed to improve exploration risk analysis of several large fault-dependent prospects mapped on trend with the new discoveries.
