Abstract

Models of flexural basement motion are discussed which allow for (a) elastic, (b) thermo-elastic, and (c) plastic-elastic behavior, with inclusion in the models of (1) compressive or extensional stress; (2) variation of lithospheric basement density along the flexural plate; (3) variations of plate rigidity along the plate; (4) variations of initial plate angle, hinge point position, length of plate, initial end-load, and plate curvature; (5) variations of rigidity with plate displacement (thermo-elastic model); and (6) variations of plate bending moment with respect to a limiting value (plastic-elastic model).
