Abstract

Tectonic evolution of the SE part of the North European Platform and its contact with the West Carpathians in Moravia (Czech Republic), where the present Variscan and Alpine orogens with opposite vergencies are overlapping, is reconstructed from seismic profiles and deep borehole sections and simulated with basin modeling software (1-D PDI-PC™, IES). The conceptual model is based on a series of stratigraphic and tectonic events (i.e., deposition, erosion, non-deposition, and thrusting) in this area. Some of the depositional and erosional events are inferred, and their extent is estimated based on organic maturity data.
