Abstract

Recent measurements on core from the Imperial College borehole test site have shown values of P-wave anisotropy for shales in excess of 20%. It has als0 been shown that such high anisotropies are required to explain traveltimes in a crosshole survey. If the horizontal and vertical velocities from the core measurements are plotted against porosity it is observed that there is an apparent dependency between porosity and anisotropy. In order to explain this apparent dependance and predict the variation in anisotropy with depth it would be useful to have a porosity log.
