Abstract

Geological knowledge will help traveltime inversion to determine the shape of geological structures quantitatively. We consider various least-squares criteria: parallelism, developability and smoothness of folded interfaces, borehole dip measurements, and a new criterion related to the direction of fold axes. Numerical results demonstrate the feasibility of our approach. This work aims at integrating geology and geophysics quantitatively via multicriteria optimization.
