Abstract

In many seismic applications we deal with models with a simple overborden which can be adequately represented by a horizontal stack of homogeneous layers, while the deeper structure is more complex and requires the boundaries of the layers to be irregular. In particular, such models are common in North Sea prospects. In this paper we suggest a simple and effective hybrid approach for calculating reflection wave seismograms for such 2D acoustic and elastic models. The main point is that we want to obtain the reflection response from the deep part of the structure doe not only to direct transmission from the source, but also due to all possible P-S conversions and reverberations between the free surface and the horizontal layers.
