Abstract

The succes of any static estimation procedure is dependent on the quality of the travel timer measured from the data. The time picking step is degraded by noise and by the statics themselves. The technique we describe in this paper uses stacks correlations to improve the signal to noise ratio and to commom mode the statics. This method is a combination of the conventional trace-to-model correlation and the stacked correlation concepts discussed by Disher and Naquin (1970). We produce pick timer from stacked correlations and stacked traces and do not pick individual traces or individual trace-to-model correlations. The resulting picks have less noise, fewer cycle skips and can be decomposed to statics by any available algorithm. The method is applicable to refraction and reflection data and examples of both are shown.
