Abstract

Summary

Shale gas exploration and development is a fast-growing area of technological challenges. This paper describes an integrated case study of a Muskwa and Horn River Formation project in northeastern British Columbia, Canada where Nexen Energy ULC holds multiple leases. The Horn River shales contain the largest accumulation of gas in North America, but development of this vast resource is in its very early stages. As part of the technical due diligence required for efficient development of this type of play, this study incorporated pre- and post-stack seismic attributes, dipole sonic logs and deterministic rock physics analysis to optimize geological and rock property predictions within the reservoir.
