Abstract

As large commercial oil fields become increasingly difficult to find, attention has turned to the extensive reserves which still remain unproduced in our existing oil fields. Many of these fields are in decline and continued economic production depends on secondary (waterflood) or tertiary enhanced oil recovery (EOR) procedures. EOR programs are generally expensive and are often carried out in complex reservoir environments where even small improvements in efficiency may carry major economic benefits.
