Abstract
A hybrid forward modelling method combining the boundary element method with the direct global matrix (DGM) method for propagation in stratified media [1] has recently been developed [2,3]. The method allows for simulation of scattering and reverberation from elastic facets in a stratified environment. Assuming both the interior of the facet and the exterior domain are plane stratified, the exterior and interior fields can be expressed in terms of a boundary integral only along the surface of the facet, provided the Green's functions are chosen to be the ones satisfying all boundary conditions in the stratifications.
