Abstract

A method for optimally parameterising a reservoir model for history matching is described. The method takes account of both the mathematical structure of the minimisation problem that underlies history matching and the constraints imposed by geology. Furthennore, it enables us to make a prediction about how far into the future we can trust the model. The paranieterisation method is illustrated using a model of a real field. Conventionally, the parameters are chosen using a combination of intuition and trial and error which can be a lengthy and tedious process.
