Abstract

Calculations regarding water coning due to oil production with conventional (finite difference) simulators are considered to give poor results. A reliable and accurate method has been used to improve this. The method was originally developed for fresh and salt water, but has been generalized for water/oil calculations. Presently the method is applied to sharp interface situations. The method was selected because of its accurate representation and calculation of the interface. It uses an adaptive finite element grid, which incorporates the interface.
