Abstract
The Nordkapp Basin is a large SW-NE trending sedimentary basin with extensive salt diapirism, in the Southern Barents Sea. Currently only 2D seismic profiles have been acquired in the area. Conventional processing including time migration of these data indicate the possibility of salt overhangs with the potential for subsalt truncation traps, however an unambiguous interpretation of these feature is not possible from the available data. This paper discussen an attempt to better resolve the salt flank reflections through both post-stack and pre-stack depth migration. In order to calibrate the results of the imaging, a pre-stack synthetic dataset was processed in parallel with the 'real' dataset. The requirements for acquisition and processing to better image these structures are also discussed.
