Abstract

For exploration in the Barents Sea there have been acquired 2D seismic data in an area dominated by salt diapirism. Time migration of these data covering geological features with large lateral changes of velocities will not image the underground sufficiently. In addition we will experience that the CDP-stack fails due to non-hyperbolic moveout of the travel-time curve for subsalt reflectors (raypaths through salt). In this case we may consider prestack depth migration of the data to get a proper image. That is a process which requires an accurate velocity-depth model.
