Abstract
The Aptian Salt Basin of Gabon contains a combined rift and drift sequence in which the Aptian evaporites and clastics immediately below them mark the division between the lacustrine Rift Phase and Marine Drift Phase of the separation of West Africa from South America. Estimates range as high as 3 billion barrels of recoverable oil from several pre-salt plays in this trend. All these pre-salt plays are associated in some fashion with basement highs and early rift geometry.
