Abstract

The only `true-amplitude' approach to random noise reduction in common use is the method of FX(Y) deconvolution. This paper describes a time domein generalisation of FX(Y) deconvolution which is also a true-amplitude approach and which has the following advantages: (a) the gain is user-adjustable ; (b) noise is reduced at all non-signal wavenumbers; (c) greater tolerance of noise; (d) flexibility and conceptual and computational simplicity.
