Abstract

Implicit finite difference (FD) wavefield continuation has long been the standard approach fur industrial migration: post-stack implementation in the frequency-space (FX) domain offering moderate accuracy with computational efficiency. Using real data examples, we compare various implicit and explicit one-pass depth migration algorithms implemented in the FX domain, with specific reference to their ability to deal isotropically with steep dips over the full FK band-width, evaluating their assumptions, errors, and cost-effectiveness.
