Abstract
A theory pretending to be general and complete has to answer the following questions: Is it correct that for any pattern of observations and for any type of waves there is an algorithm which transforms a set of seismic records into time or depth section? If such an algorithm exists is it unique or not? If it is not unique, then which criteria we can use in order to choose the optimal one ?
